I woke up on Saturday morning, switched on the t.v to hear the weatherman informing me that it would be the coldest day of the year in Yorkshire today and furthermore it was likely to show on high ground, nothing drastic but a small covering all the same. “Fantastic” was my first thought, I love winter weddings because the light is totally different and it has a softness to it sometimes, even though it can be biting hard at the extremities with all its might, but with the added attraction of snow wetted my appetite even more. I hoped the snow would be around at the time of the wedding in Helme which is a stones throw for Holmfirth (made famous from The Last of The Summer Wine sitcom.)
We had arranged to meet Sarah (the Bride) at Titanic Spa mills at Linthwaite Huddersfield. The Sat nav took us up hill and down “blood” dale till we realised that although the postcode was correct for the Royal Mail to find it, it wasn’t accurate enough for the sat nav to locate it, so a quick phone call later to the Spa and with a new postcode punched in we were there.
The Bride and Bridesmaids were “chilling” and showed no sign of nerves, so we set to work photographing the girls, mother of the Bride and spent time shooting little details that look really well in the finished album.
Setting off to the church to meet the lads and the snow had started to disappear but the cold wind was just as bone chilling, and the bridemaids were going to feel that a little bit later.
We met up with the guys and photographed Dan and his brother who was The Best Man and the rest of the ushers at a lovely little village church in Helme.
The first problem that the “Bride and maids” encountered was that the cars they arrived in, came around the back of the church which had restricted access for a beautiful Bride wearing high heeled shoes in a stunningly large wedding dress. Firstly they tried to enter through the gate which was really too narrow for the dress, so with that plan abandoned they tried to get through the lynch gate which would have been okay on a dry day but because it had no path and was just a grass track covered in snow was a definate “no -no” I stopped the girls from going down this route so it was back to plan “A” the gate. After much effort the girls manouvered the Bride through the obstical course although some of the Bridesmaids steped in large puddles of muddy water whilst performing their heroics and I had to quickly dive into the toilets to get some tissue to wipe their poor cold wet feet!!!!! They never complained and were without doubt the best Bridesmaids I have come across in a long while so “Well done Girls” This photographery salutes you.
The rest of the day went pretty much how a wedding is suppose to go and again without any complaints even out in the inclemant weather.
The reception was held at The Cragrats Brasserie which has enough room for 65-75 seated diners and has a lovely warm atmosphere. A Pianist played in the corner adding to the mood whilst the guests drank mulled wine and chatted in the “warm” while the formal pictures were taken outside. We pulled them out to a patio where we could shoot the large group pictures and they were quickly back inside for the wedding breakfast.
Its at this point that I’d like to mention the meal. Because we provided all day coverage at Sarah and Dan’s wedding, the happy couple insisted we have the same meal that all the guests were having, which was a lovely gesture on their part as which are normally happy with Chips and Sandwiches but I was glad they did because the meal turned out to be without doubt the best I’ve had at a wedding. The food was simply fantastic. Ive included a link so you can view the Christmas menu. I’m going back!
The slideshow of the days events went down really well and laughter a tears were abundent as usual and you can see how happy Sarah and Dan are in this picture.
Thanks everyone for a fantastic day and a brilliant wedding.
